Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, reports Diario Sport.

The Dutch midfielder has been heavily linked with an exit this summer, with the Catalan giants looking to cash in on him to mitigate their financial crisis.

Reports of De Jong to Manchester United have been doing rounds over the past few weeks, with newly-appointed manager Erik ten Hag keen on a reunion with the 25-year-old.

Ligue 1 giants PSG are now in the mix for De Jong, who they tried to sign when he was at Ajax before moving to Camp Nou.

Furthermore, Luis Campos, who is set to succeed Leonardo as PSG’s sporting director, is said to be a huge admirer of the Dutch international and is interested in bringing him to the Capital club.

Having resolved the transfer saga of Kylian Mbappe by extending his deal until 2025, PSG are looking to follow up with a statement signing, and De Jong is one of their desired targets.

The midfield needs more strengthening, with the likes of Ander Herrera, Georginio Wijnaldum and Leandro Paredes failing to impress this season.

Paul Pogba is also understood to be another target for Les Parisiens, but the out-of-contract Manchester United star prefers a return to Juventus.

De Jong would have the opportunity to link up with Lionel Messi again should he move to the French Capital.

However, it remains to be seen whether the former Ajax star’s future at Barca would be over as Xavi wants to keep hold of him for the foreseeable future and also prefers to sell other outcasts.

The Catalans have affixed a price tag of around €80 million for De Jong, which is more or less similar to that of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is also on the transfer books of PSG.
