According to a report from L’Équipe, Paris FC have made Matthis Abline (22) their number one priority as they look to bring in reinforcements that will keep them in the top flight following an end to their 46-year absence from Ligue 1.
Abline has been the player on plenty of clubs’ lips this summer, as the France youth international was key to Nantes staving off relegation, scoring nine in 34 league appearances. However, while interest has been high, the Nantes president has set a high price tag that has warded off suitors.
Olympique de Marseille, in particular, were given an exclusive €50m asking price, applicable only to them, due to discontent over their previous transfer dealings. For most clubs, the price seems to be around €40m, enough to see off Lille OSC.
However, Paris have been buoyed by their new riches and are one of the few clubs that could meet the demand. L’Équipe writes that Abline could be persuaded by an increase in his wage, and he would be playing for a club which has future ambitions of European football.
Paris could begin formalising their opening offer; however, there is thought to be an English club in the background which have recently approached Nantes for details, although it is thought not to be Sunderland AFC.
