Serie B side Palermo have opened the first self-owned training ground in 120 years of the club’s history, in conjunction with Manchester City.
The Sicilians are making their way back from bankruptcy in the summer of 2019, forcing them to start again from the semi-pro leagues.
City Football Group bought 80 per cent of the shares in July 2022, bringing Palermo under the umbrella of Sheikh Mansur bin Zayd Al Nahyan’s company along with Manchester City and New York City FC.
Today the Palermo City Football Academy was opened and it is the first time in its over 120 years of history that Palermo have owned their training facilities.
It includes a fitness centre, pitches, medical rooms and a food hall.
As part of the co-ownership deal, Palermo can act as a feeder club for Manchester City and share talents.
The Sicilians released a video tour of the facilities, assuring “a new era has begun.”
It is based in the Torretta area of the city and the opening was transmitted live at the Stadio Renzo Barbera for fans in a party atmosphere.
