Sao Paulo thrashed Julho Esporte 9-1 in the return leg of the Brazil Cup to advance to the second round.
Julho Esporte suffered perhaps their most humiliating loss in the tournament after defeating Sao Paulo 3-2 at home in the first leg and scoring first in the return match.
A hat trick from Pablo , a brace from Luciano alongside Sara G, Rigoni, Bruno Alves , Bala C (own goal) all scored for the tricolor in one of their best displays in the competition.
The game got off to a fast start for the visitors, who scored in less than two minutes. Dudu Beberibe took advantage of a defensive blunder by Reinaldo, putting the ball past Tiago Volpi and extending his side’s lead to 4-2 on aggregate. No one could have imagined what would have happened next.
The hosts, on the other hand, did not back down and instead raised the game’s speed to go up 3-1 in the space 14 minutes, with goals from Pablo, Luciano, and Sara G.
In the second half, the game took a completely different turn. Sao Paulo’s dominance was evident in the 57th minute, when Pablo scored his second goal of the match, extending his team’s aggregate lead.
Rigoni and Bruno Alves made it 6-1 in the 64th and 66th minutes respectively, before Chico Bala scored an own goal eight minutes later. Pablo completed his hat trick late in the game with a man-of-the-match performance before Luciano added his brace in the 90th minute, completing the 9-1 and 11-4 aggregate score.
After a 10-0 win over Botafogo-PB in 2001, the victory over Julho Esporte was Sao Paulo’s second highest scoring margin in the Copa do Brasil.
Sao Paulo will play Atlético-MG in the third round of the Brazilian Championship next Sunday at Mineiro.
