Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick intends to call upon an out-of-favour member of his goalkeeper ranks, for the club’s upcoming pre-season tour of Asia.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Iñaki Peña as the player in question.
Goalkeeper Peña is of course widely expected to be on the move before the summer is out.
Owing to all of the arrival of Joan García, contract extension afforded to Wojciech Szczęsny, and refusal of Marc-André ter Stegen to depart, the 26-year-old can now be considered fourth choice in Barca’s squad.
The widespread assumption, in turn, was that Peña would be left in Catalunya’s capital to organise an exit, whilst his teammates head on their upcoming tour of Asia.
As alluded to above, however, this in fact will not be the case.
As per a report from MD:
‘It’s a given, and barring a last-minute change of heart, such as the arrival of an offer that satisfies all parties, Iñaki Peña will be part of the Barça expedition that will board the plane taking the club on tour to Japan and South Korea.’
Hansi Flick, it is claimed, wants to show sufficient ‘respect’ to a member of his squad who has remained professional despite his difficult situation.
