Manchester City entertained Premier League fans with a thumping 7-0 win over Leeds on Tuesday evening.
Here is what we made of it…
Manchester City have had some statement wins over the years under the management of Pep Guardiola, but this result reminded fans just how good his spell with the club has been.
Phil Foden’s opening goal of the night was the club’s 500th Premier League strike under Guardiola – which is quite the tally.
And it only took 207 games to reach that number meaning City average a staggering 2.42 goals per game under Pep.
They then went on to add six more on after Foden’s opener. How many more can they bag under the guidance of Guardiola?
As Manchester City’s big summer signing, Jack Grealish had a lot of pressure on his shoulders.
And while he’s fitted comfortably into his new surroundings, he hasn’t quite hit the ground running as many thought – meaning he’s faced a lot of criticism as a result.
But on Tuesday, the 26-year-old scored his first Premier League goal in 115 days to silence the doubters.
Additionally, the goal against Leeds was a personal milestone for him as it was his first headed goal in the Premier League in his 109th appearance.
Guardiola said the goals would come for Grealish and, after a bit of time, they’re finally back.
Could this breakthrough help his confidence? City fans would certainly hope so.
The new season hasn’t started off strongly for Leeds and the woes continue for Marcelo Bielsa’s side after their hammering at the Etihad Stadium.
Winless in their last three games, the Whites have now conceded 32 goals in 17 games this term. To add to the worry, they sit just above relegation in 16th place.
For Bielsa individually, things get even worse as it’s the first time one of his teams has ever conceded seven goals in his 568 games in management.
Looking ahead in the schedule, there is no let-up with difficult clashes against Arsenal and Liverpool up next.
They’ll have to quickly move past Tuesday’s hammering if they want to try and improve their standing ahead of the new year.
Entering 2022 on a positive note would be exactly what Bielsa and company need.
