Leila Ouahabi says she’s hoping to win the Barclays Women’s Super League title for Manchester City captain Steph Houghton.

The Club’s colossal captain announced she is to retire at the end of the term in March, with our final assignment in 2023/24 – a trip to Aston Villa – representing the last match of her illustrious career.

It could be a special day at Villa Park with Gareth Taylor’s side chasing a second-ever top-flight crown following a dramatic title race so far this campaign.

Ahead of our meeting with the Villans, we sit at the division’s summit, three points ahead of Chelsea, although we’ve played a game more than the Londoners who have a superior goal difference.

But three points could potentially seal our status as champions – which Ouahabi believes will be a fitting send off for Houghton.

“Steph is a really good person. She’s a really good captain, she’s had a really good career. She always tries to help us and she’s always very positive.

“For us Steph is very important and I hope to win this league for her and for everyone [who] stayed for us for the season.

“We are disappointed [by the Arsenal result]. But now we need to stay strong and we need to focus on the next game against Aston Villa and we need to [produce] a good game.”

Across Ouahabi’s second season at the Joie Stadium, she has made 22 appearances in all competitions and has cemented her place as an important member of our backline.

Throughout 2023/24 so far, the versatile defender has registered four assist and scored her first goal for the Club in our strong 5-0 win over West Ham United at the Joie Stadium in April.

And the Spaniard believes she’s flourishing in Taylor’s City system.

She added: “To be fair, always I was an attacking left back. I like to go in front.

“I try to help the team always and I try to do my best. If I can help us in something like that I’m always happy for this.

“I’m enjoying this season and I’m very happy for the work across all the season. Now, we keep pushing for the last game and I try my best.”
