It has been well-documented that Burnley are in the market for a striker this month.

According to the Daily Mail, Queens Park Rangers striker Lyndon Dykes is the latest name on the Clarets’ radar, with Stoke City also interested in the 27-year-old and Millwall having a £3 million bid turned down.

One of Burnley’s main targets this month is Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo, with Robins manager Nigel Pearson revealing that the club have turned down a bid from the Championship leaders for the Ghana international.

While The Sun claimed at that a deal for Swansea City striker Michael Obafemi is close, with the 22-year-old currently out-of-favour in South Wales.

Burnley’s interest in the trio is understandable, but perhaps one option they should be considering is Brighton & Hove Albion forward Deniz Undav, who as we revealed is attracting interest from a host of second tier sides including West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland, Norwich City, Blackburn Rovers, and Millwall.

Vincent Kompany’s men currently sit five points clear of second-placed Sheffield United and 19 clear of third-placed Watford, with a Premier League return looking almost certain, so they will be an attractive potential destination to any player, giving them a good chance of fighting off the competition for Undav’s signature.

Who does Dwight McNeil play for now?

There only doubt over a move to Turf Moor may be how much game time he would receive with Jay Rodriguez well-established as the club’s first-choice striker, but it may be a risk worth taking for the German as if he can impress, he may be offered a top flight opportunity at the club next season with a permanent deal.

The benefit of opting for Undav over Dykes, Semenyo, and Obafemi is that it would be significantly more affordable by securing a loan deal for his services, but perhaps a short-term option is more sensible to strengthen their options for the remainder of the season.

Kompany will likely be recruiting from a different market for the Premier League next season and with Dykes, Semenyo, and Obafemi all unproven at the highest level, their suitability to make the step up has to be questioned.

It would be unfair to judge Undav based on his brief top flight cameos for the Seagulls this season, but two goals in four cup appearances, including one against Championship opposition in Middlesbrough, suggests he is a player who can make an impact when given a chance.

The amount of interest in him this month is also a significant endorsement of his abilities and he has an excellent track record in front of goal prior to his arrival at the Amex Stadium, so you would not bet against Kompany getting the best out of him.

Admittedly the Clarets do not necessarily need attacking reinforcements, but Undav could prove a useful asset as they look to secure what is a seemingly inevitable promotion.
