The youngster Pau Cubarsi has made a definitive leap in his career this season as he grew from being a Barcelona Atletic player to become one of the most trusted first team players for Xavi Hernandez.

The defender has definitely deserved such a role in the squad with his incredible performances at the highest level despite his youth and lack of experience. He is clearly one of the most exciting players in the current squad, one who is contributing to attack as well, and is only going to grow even further in the coming years.

Therefore, it is important for Barcelona to ensure his long-term continuity with the club, and for this purpose, the Catalans are already in negotiation with him to arrive at an agreement.

The latest update on these negotiations has been provided by Mundo Deportivo, which claims that the two parties have already reached an agreement on the economic part, and only the duration of the new contract now remains to be settled.

As far as the wages are concerned, Cubarsi will be naturally getting a raise. The two sides are yet to agree on the duration of the new contract, with Barcelona proposing a 6 year agreement, and the player asking for a 5-year commitment. However, sources from the club indicate that this is not going to be serious obstacle to the renewal.

In addition to this problem, another issue that Barcelona will face in this operation will be to assess how the new contract will fit into the club Fair Play scope.

Thus, Cubarsi can still have a reserve team number for the next season, and then get a first team number, as has already happened with Gavi previously.

A Lamine Yamal formula will be repeated with Cubarsi, under which the defender’s new contract will be modified once he turns 18 years of age next year, and which will remain in effect till 2030.

Furthermore, his release clause, which currently stands at only €10 million, will also be increased significantly, and Barcelona are aiming to insert a €1000 million clause in his new contract to show their trust in his talent.

However, the player’s entourage will also be happy with a lower, but still inaccessible, clause of around €400 million, as was the case with Fermin Lopez.
