Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski has on Wednesday been dealt a fatal blow in his hopes of lifting the Ballon d’Or.

As much comes owing to comments on the part of Nicolas Manissier, director of France Football, responsible for crowning world football’s standout performer.

The subject of Lewandowski’s Ballon d’Or claim had of course returned to the forefront of the headlines across Europe over the course of the last 24 hours.

This came after speculation in the media suggested that fresh consideration was being given to the Pole being handed his deserved Golden Ball, for his endeavours across the 2019/20 campaign.

Lewa, for his part, proved himself the central protagonist, by way of an eye-watering 55 goals, en route to Bayern Munich clinching the treble four years ago.

His Ballon d’Or hopes, however, were dashed, upon the awarding of the prize being cancelled due to the pandemic.

In turn, chatter surrounding France Football returning to the table to reconsider handing the now-Barcelona man the accolade had no doubt sparked excitement on the part of Lewandowski and his close circle alike.

The 35-year-old, however, need not get his hopes up.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of the aforementioned Nicolas Manissier that no such plans have been drawn up.

Speaking in an interview with Cadena SER, as cited by Diario Sport, the France Football chief assured:

“We are not considering awarding the Ballon d’Or to Robert Lewandowski for 2020. As an institution, we have our own regulations that we rigorously respect.”
