FC Barcelona had up to four players playing away on loan at the start of the 2024-25 season. Of these four players, one, Vitor Roque, was sold in the middle of the season, while the futures of two more loanees, Alex Valle and Clement Lenglet, have also been finalized.
The former is going to join Como after the Italians decided to exercise their purchase option on the fullback. The latter terminated his contract with the Blaugrana club after successful negotiations, and is expected to permanently join Atletico Madrid as a free agent.
Thus, Oriol Romeu remains the only Barcelona player who spent the last season on loan, with Girona, and whose future is yet to be decided.

It is quite unlikely that he will continue at the Blaugrana club. Although he has a contract till 2026, Mundo Deportivo notes that he already understands that he is not a part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the next season. The Catalan side is yet to inform him about their decision regarding his future, however.
Girona had already announced in May that he would be released at the end of the season. Although they can still call him back for another season, this is quite a distant prospect at the moment, and it remains to be seen what will happen in the one year he still has in his contract with Barcelona.
For now, Romeu is waiting for a meeting between his agent and the Blaugrana Sporting Director, Deco. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, there are not a lot of problems expected in the resolution of this problem.
Last season, Oriol Romeu made 25 La Liga appearances and another 6 UEFA Champions League appearances for Girona. Thus, despite being 33 years of age, he can still play at a top-level club for some years, and hopefully, he will be able to find a solution to his future soon.
