Barcelona make ‘significant progress’ towards youngster’s signing | OneFootball

La Liga giants Barcelona took an important step towards the signing of a highly-regarded young attacker on Thursday.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Cardoso Varela as the player in question.

Varela’s name is one which will be familiar to some of a Barcelona persuasion, after the 16-year-old was previously tipped for a potential move to Catalunya’s capital during his time on the books of Porto.

And Deco and co, evidently, have not lost track of Varela’s development…

As per a report from Diario Sport, on Thursday morning, a meeting took place between Andy Bara, the now-Dinamo Zagreb talent’s agent, and Barca sporting director Deco.

During as much, what is labelled as ‘significant progress’ towards a deal for Varela to head to the Camp Nou was made.

The discussions in question are understood to have centered on an initial €5 million fee, featuring significant add-ons with the potential to take the deal to a total €20 million.

Should an agreement be found over the weeks ahead, Varela, an explosive winger, would be expected to remain on loan with Dinamo Zagreb, before joining Barcelona in the summer of 2026.
