Hull City are the latest Championship side to join the race for Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous, according to a report from The Sun.
The January transfer window will be the first opportunity for Liam Rosenior to add to his Hull side that he took over as manager back in November.
It was exclusively reported by Football League World last week that Norwich City, Sunderland, Watford, and West Brom are all keen on signing the defender in the upcoming transfer window.
Then, before Hibernian’s return to Scottish Premiership football, Porteous confirmed that he is ready for a fresh challenge in a new league.
Now in this latest update from The Sun, Hull have joined the long-list of teams who are keen on signing the centre-back this January.
As we digest this news here at FLW, we’ve taken a look at one winner and one loser at Hull City if the club make a January swoop for the Hibernian man…
Winner: Jacob Greaves
If Hull did manage to beat off fellow Championship opposition and bring Porteous to their club, then this surely would be a big boost to the club and it’s players.
One player who could benefit from this signing is defender Jacob Greaves. The 22-year-old is currently one of the club’s brightest young talents and one of their most important players under Rosenior.
Greaves has played in all 23 league games this season, grabbing two goals and registering two assists. But it’s his overall play at centre-back, his presence on and off the ball, that has made him standout in recent months.
There has been lots of speculation surrounding Greaves’ future, but adding a defender like Porteous to the club could be a big factor in helping persuade the 22-year-old to stick around a little longer.
Greaves and Porteous are both young defenders but play in a very similar way, and if they were to partner up in Hull’s defence then it could make a massive difference to Hull’s season.

Loser: Sean McLoughlin
Sean McLoughlin has already struggled at Hull this season, featuring only on a handful of occasions as he’s struggled to get past Alfie Jones and Greaves’ partnership.
Therefore, if the Tigers were to add Porteous to their backline, then McLoughlin would find himself further down the pecking order.
The Republic of Ireland international has only appeared five times in the league, with three of those being cameo appearances, before starting the last two games against Watford and Sunderland, respectively.
However, that could soon change were Porteous to arrive at the KCOM Stadium, and therefore, a temporary move away could possibly be on the cards for the 26-year-old as he would surely find himself back on the bench once again.
