Barnsley are said to be in talks to sign outgoing Brentford midfielder Emiliano Marcondes this summer, according to football journalist Pete O’Rourke on Twitter.
The Danish midfielder is set to leave the Brentford Community Stadium after helping the Bees to secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history.
Now aged 26, Marcondes signed off his time in West London in style last month as he scored the second goal in the club’s play-off final victory over Swansea City at Wembley Stadium in what was a man of the match performance by the attacking midfielder.
Now it appears that the player could well stay in England this summer, with the Tykes having seemingly taken the first key steps towards bringing him to Oakwell ahead of Nottingham Forest, who are also said to be keen.
Here, we take a look at ONE winner and ONE loser at Barnsley if the clubs brings in Marcondes in the near future…
Winner – Cauley Woodrow
The clear winner of any deal being agreed for the outgoing Brentford ace would be Cauley Woodrow, with the striker sure to benefit heavily from the creativity that Marcondes offers in the final third.
Of course, the former Fulham man once again thrived for the Tykes in the campaign just gone, but a player such as a Marcondes would arguably improve the amount of chances that are put on a plate for him.
The Dane is excellent at taking set pieces and has a passing range that enables him to create chances at will for other forward players on his team.
If the 26-year-old does indeed move to Oakwell, he could form a great attacking partnership with Woodrow moving forwards.
Loser – Conor Chaplin
The Barnsley attacker was used regularly last term but largely failed to make much of an impact in the attacking midfield berth that Valérien Ismaël played him in.
Therefore it would appear that he would be the main loser at Oakwell if Marcondes did indeed sign, as the Dane is a like for like replacement for the ex-Portsmouth man.
The Brentford player offers a lot more in terms of natural creativity whilst Chaplin is more of a striker than a midfielder if truth be told.
Bringing in a player as talented as Marcondes could well see Chaplin fall down the pecking order in Yorkshire, with the Danish playmaker arguably offering a lot more in a creative sense.
