Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Union St Gilloise and Genk have agreed a deal that will see Anouar Ait El Hadj return to Brussels. El Hadj came through the Anderlecht academy and appeared to be yet another player of immense talent coming through the youth system. However, he struggled for consistency and last January he was sold to Genk for around €2m. The 22-year-old is now going back to Brussels to join Anderlecht’s city rivals Union, who are looking to bolster their squad in forward positions after the departure of Mohamed Amoura and the impending move of Gustaf Nilsson to Club Brugge.
El Hadj only made 19 league appearances for Genk last season, with many off the bench. He did, however, managed to grab four goals. During his time at Anderlecht he made 75 appearances, scoring seven goals. Many of these were collectors items, as he had the potential to come up with something special in the final third. Union are getting a versatile attack minded player who can play out wide or centrally behind a striker. Unions ability to realise players untapped potential in recent years could be just what El Hadj needs to prove himself at this level as a consistent performer.
