A medical has been pencilled in for Thursday afternoon following an agreement between the Clarets and Stuttgart, which is understood to be worth up to €3.5 million (£2.95m).

FLW’s Burnley fan pundit Ben Livingstone is cautiously optimistic that the arrival of the winger could prove to be a very promising addition to Vincent Kompany’s side.

While he hasn’t seen much of the 22-year-old in action, he believes that the affection both Schalke and Stuttgart supporters have shown for him is a clear indication of his talent.

Given the fee, this Burnley fan pundit also admits that the deal could prove to be quite a good signing if Churlinov’s performances can live up to expectations.

But he has kept realistic in understanding that a true valuation of his worth may not be possible until he can start taking to the pitch in Kompany’s side.

“With Darko Churlinov it’s one of them that it looks a good deal but none of us have really seen him play, so it’s hard to say right now, but for €3.5 million he could become one of the best deals or it could be a pretty poor one,” Livingstone told .

“Three million is a lot in the Championship, so it’s how he fares.

“Obviously he’s very versatile, it’s what Kompany wants.

“He had a great season last year at Schalke despite not scoring or assisting too many in the second division, but they wanted him back and just couldn’t afford him.

“He’s loved by their fans.

“Stuttgart fans rate him, they were all saying they want €10 million for him minimum at the start when we first got linked.

“So on paper, it looks like a good deal but we’re going to have to see how it plays out.”

True False

It has been a busy summer at Burnley since the appointment of Kompany as manager.

The addition of Churlinov would make him the 14th summer signing for the club as they look to bounce straight back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Verdict

Translating Churlinov’s performances from the 2. Bundesliga to the Championship will be difficult as we wait to see how he will perform.

But if he can hit the ground running and replicate the form of Maxwel Cornet or Dwight McNeil, then he could prove to be a real bargain for the Clarets.

He was able to help the German giants Schalke earn promotion back to the top flight last season, scoring two and assisting four goals.

Kompany will be hoping he can play a similar role in his side this season in order to contend for promotion from the Championship.
