It was one-way traffic for the reigning champions as the visitors made Europa-Park Stadion their own.

Spain’s Dani Olmo was on fire for RB Leipzig, opening the scoring with a thumping header before registering a hat-trick of assists.

Benjamin Henrichs’ bullet strike doubled their lead within seconds then stars Dominik Szoboszlai and Christopher Nkunku made it 4-0 by the break.

Freiburg’s fans continued to be loud and tried rallying their club’s potential comeback, but unfortunately for the hosts, the deficit was too large to overcome.

They did, however, strike two significant blows against Leipzig.

Roland Sallai was pushed down by Josko Gvardiol who was subsequently shown a straight red. The holders will now be without one of their best defenders for the final.

Freiburg also managed to erase any clean sheet hopes as Michael Gregoritsch headed home against a flat-footed defence for 4-1.

But more misery was piled on the hosts when Szoboszlai added a fifth from the penalty spot.

Leipzig will now face either VfB Stuttgart or Eintracht Frankfurt for the trophy.
