Olivier Giroud set to leave AC Milan and sign for Los Angeles FC | OneFootball

Olivier Giroud (37) is set to leave AC Milan when his contract expires next June and sign for MLS franchise Los Angeles FC, according to a report this Friday from L’Equipe. In California, Giroud would reunite with his former France teammate and close friend Hugo Lloris, who has joined Los Angeles FC at the turn of the year. It means France’s record goalscorer with Les Bleus with 56 strikes to his name will team up with France’s most-capped player (145).

The outlet understands that paperwork still needs to be resolved ahead of Giroud’s desired move to Los Angeles FC. The MLS side have worked for weeks to convince Giroud to cross the Atlantic, putting an end to an illustrious career in Europe. In addition to the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 Nations League he won with France, the centre-forward has won the 2012 Ligue 1 title with Montpellier, four FA Cups with both Arsenal and Chelsea, the 2019 Europa League and the 2021 Champions League with the Blues. After lifting Big Ol’ Ears with Thomas Tuchel’s side, Giroud joined AC Milan and proved instrumental in the Rossoneri’s 2022 Serie A title win for his first season in Italy.

At 37, Giroud remains a reliable goalscorer and has found the net 14 times this season with Stefano Pioli’s side, which is still on course to win the Europa League. The Chambéry-born striker is currently with the France set-up during this international break. The Euro 2024 in Germany is expected to be his last tournament with Didier Deschamps’ Les Bleus. L’Equipe adds that, due to his transfer to LAFC, Giroud is not expected to take part in the Paris Games’ football tournament with Thierry Henry’s Under-23 side.
