OGC Nice deterred by Marseille’s Jonathan Clauss asking price

Olympique de Marseille want to sell Jonathan Clauss (31), new OGC Nice manager Franck Haise wants to sign the full-back, with whom he worked at RC Lens, and the France international is himself receptive to a move to Le Gym. All the stars, in theory, are aligned for Clauss to join Nice this summer, however, as Nice-Matin report, the asking price is proving a stumbling block.

Clauss joined Marseille from Lens in a €7.5m deal two years ago and whilst the France international’s deal is set to expire at the end of next season, they are nonetheless asking to make a profit and sell the full-back for €8m. Given his contract situation and his age, Les Aiglons deem that price to be too high, especially given that the club have also identified alternative targets.

The deal to bring Clauss to the Allianz Riviera is not dead in the water, however, it is blocked for now. It remains to be seen whether OM can show flexibility regarding the asking price.
