Selling Joaquin Correa wouldn’t be enough for Inter Milan to sign Albert Gudmundsson this summer

This according to Italian outlet Gazzetta.it.

It’s no secret that Inter are eyeing up Genoa forward Gudmundsson.

The 26-year-old Icelandic international is the Nerazzurri’s primary target in attack for the summer transfer window.

However, making a deal to sign Gudmundsson will not be easy.

Part of the reason is the price tag. Genoa reportedly want a fee of €30-35 million for the former AZ Alkmaar man, who scored fourteen goals and made seven assists last season.

But it is not just that. Inter also have very little room in attack at the moment.

Alexis Sanchez will be on his way this summer. But taking the former Arsenal veteran’s place in the squad will be striker Mehdi Taremi, arriving on a free transfer from Porto.

And then as if that wasn’t enough, there is also forward Joaquin Correa.

The ex-Lazio and Sampdoria forward has returned to Inter following the end of a deeply underwhelming loan spell at Marseille.

That means that, for the time being, there are five forwards in Inter’s squad.

Therefore, at the moment, it certainly wouldn’t be possible for the Nerazzurri to make a signing in attack. Gudmundsson or otherwise.

Offloading Correa Not Enough – Inter Must Also Sell Arnautovic To Sign Gudmundsson

With or without a move for Gudmundsson, Inter will aim to sell Joaquin Correa this summer.

And the Argentine’s departure would certainly help to free of space in the team for Gudmundsson.

But according to the Gazzetta, selling Correa on its own would not be sufficient for Inter to get a move for Gudmundsson underway.

In all likelihood, another forward would have to depart.

And the Gazzetta name 35-year-old Austrian international striker Arnautovic as that player.

Arnautovic joined Inter from Bologna last summer. He signed a two-year contract which expires next June.

Given that Arnautovic earns €3.7 million net per season, his wages would be an obstacle to Inter signing Gudmundsson.

Accordingly, the Gazzetta anticipate, Inter will likely have to try and sell the former West Ham United striker if they are to sign Gudmundsson.
