Cody Gakpo joins Dutch royalty with latest EURO 2024 strike 🥉 | OneFootball

The Netherlands have enjoyed a flying start to their EURO 2024 last-16 clash with Romania and it was that man again.

Cody Gakpo racked up his third goal of the tournament, making him its joint-top scorer, with a 20th-minute opener that also put him among Dutch football royalty.

The Liverpool forward became the sixth Oranje player to score three or more goals during a single European Championship campaign.

He joins Dennis Bergkamp and Georginio Wijnaldum in racking up triple efforts and could still close in on further legends including Patrick Kluivert and Marco Van Basten.

Gakpo’s strike was also his sixth across successive international tournaments with Ronald Koeman’s side – a feat racked up by only two other Dutch legends.

And there still might be more records if his country keep progressing through the knockout rounds.
