Spanish full-back Angeliño is set to join Roma on a permanent basis from RB Leipzig. The Italian club activated the buy option in the player’s deal to make his transfer from Leipzig permanent.
The Spaniard impressed manager Daniele De Rossi during his six-month loan spell. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, one French and one English club tried to enter the race for Angeliño, however the 27-year-old rejected their advances in favour of staying at Roma.
The full-back will put pen to paper on a €2m net salary, plus some add-ons. The Premier League club rumoured to be interested in the player was Bournemouth. Former Roma coach Tiago Pinto attempted to lure the defender to Bournemouth, but the ex-Manchester City man rejected this opportunity, opting to remain in the Italian league.
Roma sent a formal email to the Bundesliga side today in order to conclude the deal. Angeliño joined the Giallorossi on loan in January and it was Pinto who convinced the club to bring him in.
Angeliño spent the first part of the season on loan at Galatasaray. Roma will pay Leipzig €5m in intallments over the next three years to secure the player’s signature.
