Wolfsburg have today announced the signing of Mads Roerslev on a six-month loan from Brentford with a reported €6.5m option to buy. The 25-year-old Danish defender becomes the second player to join VfL this month after the Bundesliga side last week confirmed the arrival of Andreas Skov Olsen for €14m.

“With Mads, we are signing a versatile, excellently trained defensive player who brings a lot of experience for his age and is also far from the end of his development,” said VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “We are very pleased that we were able to convince Mads to leave for VfL.”

On his arrival, Roerslev told the club’s official website: “I am very happy to be here. Wolfsburg is a very good club, I like the way the team plays football. I am happy to be a part of it now and I can hardly wait to play in this beautiful stadium.”

After coming through Copenhagen’s youth academy and spending time on loan in Sweden, Roerslev joined Brentford in 2019. He then helped Thomas Franks’ side earn promotion to the Premier League in 2021 while also representing his national team.

During his time at Brentford, Roerslev played 146 games across all competitions.
