Liverpool have officially announced that Thiago Alcantara will leave the club this summer.

The magical midfielder has had rotten luck with injuries since his move from Bayern Munich in 2020, missing all but ten minutes of the current campaign.

However, the Spaniard remains much loved by Liverpool supporters for what he was able to produce when fit, most notably that stunner against Porto in the Champions League.

While fans knew that Thiago was almost certain to depart this summer following an injury-hit season and with his contract up, Liverpool have made the official announcement and the 33-year-old has penned his farewell message to the club and supporters.

THIAGO WILL LEAVE LIVERPOOL THIS SUMMER

Having already announced that Joel Matip will leave Anfield at the end of the season, as of course will Jurgen Klopp, Thiago is the latest to bid farewell to the Reds.

On the club's website, Liverpool stated: "Thiago Alcantara's time with Liverpool will come to an end this summer upon the expiration of his contract.

"The gifted midfielder – one assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders joked had been 'born in a rondo' – bids Anfield farewell after four seasons, during which he made 98 appearances and scored six goals.

"An experienced figure who boasted an incredible medal collection upon his arrival, Thiago added to it by lifting the Emirates FA Cup and FA Community Shield in 2022 with the Reds."

Thiago took to social media to say his goodbyes to the club and its supporters, writing: "Appreciation and gratitude. They are two words that come to mind on the day I have to say goodbye to all of you, Reds.

"Thankful too. Thankful for the opportunity to have been a part of this city, this club and this community."

Jurgen Klopp also paid tribute to the maestro, saying: "Before he even came to Liverpool I believed that if you really love football it would make a lot of sense if you watched Thiago Alcantara play.

"Technically, he is so, so good. A talent who could play in any team in the world and it was a privilege to have him with us."
