Sampdoria have confirmed that Andrea Pirlo has been dismissed from his role as head coach after 14 months at the helm in Serie B.
The legendary former Italy international leaves the club after a rough start to the 2024-25, having picked up just one point from the opening three matches, which has left Sampdoria second from bottom in the second tier.
Samp drew with recently-relegated Frosinone on the opening day of the season, but then suffered 1-0 and 3-2 defeats to Reggiana and Salernitana respectively.
Sampdoria also fell short of a promotion push last season, finishing the campaign in seventh place with 55 points, 18 shy of Como in the automatic spots.
Sampdoria have confirmed that Pirlo’s coaching staff have all left the club as well, namely Roberto Baronio, Mauro Bertoni, Nicola Pavarini and Raffaele Clemente.
“The coach and his staff are all thanked for their commitment and professionalism demonstrated during their time working for the club,” Sampdoria wrote in an official statement.
Having joined in June 2023, Sampdoria was the third senior side that Pirlo has coached, following his spells in charge of Juventus and Fatih Kamagumruk in the Turkish Super Lig.
