Former Serie A side and current Serie B outfit Sampdoria have been handed a two-point deduction.

The Genoa-based side were in financial trouble well before Andrea Radrizzani’s takeover, as the club was struggling to pay wages of the players. At one point, the players had given up their wages for a certain period and had agreed to be paid at the end of the season.

FIGC have now confirmed that Samp will start next season from -2 in what will come as a blow to Andrea Pirlo’s side, with the Italian having recently been appointed as the new manager.

IRPEF is a national tax due annually paid twice per year to the Italian State and the deduction comes because Sampdoria had failed to pay taxes in accordance to the payment of those working at the club in January, February and March. It comes after the club breached the violation of the art. 33, paragraph 2, of the FIGC rulebook.
