Ligue 1 side Rennes have announced the signing of 27-year-old Senegalese goalkeeper Alfred Gomis from Dijon for a reported fee of between €14m to €16m.
Gomis has signed a 5-year contract with the Brittany side.
Rennes President Nicolas Holveck had the following to say on the deal:
“It is a relief because this was our big priority at the end of this transfer window. He was our preferred option and by far. It is a true source of satisfaction to be able to replace Édouard (Mendy) with a future great goalkeeper. He has had a bit of a similar journey, even if Alfred has always been in professional football, a bit more normal than Édouard who has a really atypical path. Alfred has been at several clubs, he has international experience. He showed last season in Ligue 1 that he has truly great talent.”
