Bologna striker Sydney Van Hooijdonk was not even on the bench against Milan on Saturday due to flu, so his absence has nothing to do with an imminent transfer to Celtic.

Sydney Van Hooijdonk, son of former Celtic striker Pierre, has been linked with a move away from the Stadio Dall’Ara in the January transfer window with many clubs interested in securing his services, including the Scottish giants.

Van Hooijdonk was not even on the bench for an away game against Milan on Saturday night and it was rumoured that his absence was due to his imminent departure for Scotland.

However, Bologna officially revealed the reason for his absence on Friday, saying the 23-year-old was unavailable due to flu.

Nevertheless, the Dutch forward is still expected to leave Bologna in the January transfer window.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Rossoblu have reached an agreement to sign Santiago Castro from Velez, so Van Hooijdonk can leave on loan this month.
