Napoli have officially announced that Matteo Politano has signed a new contract extension with the club, which will run until the summer of 2027.

Politano joined Napoli from Serie A colleagues Inter in January 2020 on an initial two-year loan deal. That move was made permanent in 2021.

Politano’s previous deal had been set to expire in the summer of 2025, meaning he would have been entering the final 12 months of his contract this summer, and Napoli would have risked losing him for a cut-price fee.

There had been reported interest in Politano from Saudi Arabia in January, specifically from Al-Shabab, but the player, who has enjoyed a decent season on a personal level with the Partenopei, wanted to stay in Italy according to recent reports.

In his 20 Serie A appearances so far in 2023-24, Politano has chipped in with six goals and four assists. He also added another goal to his tally in the Champions League Group Stages.

Politano’s record of seven goals in all competitions makes him Napoli’s second top scorer this season, only one goal off last season’s Capocannoniere Victor Osimhen.

As is customary for Napoli transfers and contract updates, club President Aurelio De Laurentiis was the first to break the official news. The official announcement from the club’s official social media accounts arrived a few minutes later.
