Paulo Jorge Rebelo Duarte was officially unveiled on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in Conakry as the new head coach of Guinea's senior national team. He has signed a two-year contract, running until August 2027, with mandatory residency in the country.

The Guinean Football Federation approved the arrival of the Portuguese tactician after a selection process launched in June. This appointment follows results deemed unsatisfactory for the Syli National, particularly during qualification campaigns for the AFCON and the World Cup. Out of the 62 applications received, none met the technical requirements, most notably the possession of a CAF A Pro or UEFA Pro license. The final choice fell on Duarte, the former head coach of Burkina Faso, Gabon, and Togo.

“The professionalism, experience, and vision of the Portuguese coach were decisive factors in our choice. The leadership also set clear objectives for Duarte: qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, reach at least the semi-finals, and propel Guinea into the African top 10,” stated the Secretary General of Feguifoot.
