Gimenez joins Milan from Feyenoord – the official statement

“AC Milan is delighted to announce the permanent signing of Santiago Tomás Gimenez from Feyenoord Rotterdam. The Mexican striker has signed a contract that lasts until 30 June 2029,” the Rossoneri said in a statement.

“Born in Buenos Aries (Argentina) on 18 April 2001, he started his footballing journey in the youth system of Mexican club Cruz Azul. He made his first team debut for Los Celestes in August 2017 and scored 21 goals in 105 appearances for the club, winning one Copa MX and one Supercopa MX. In the summer of 2022, he joined Feyenoord, with whom he made 105 appearances and scored 65 goals. He added to his trophy cabinet in the Netherlands: one Eredivisie title, one KNVB Cup and one Johan Cruyff Shield.

“Santiago made his debut for Mexico in October 2021. To date, he has made 32 appearances and scored four goals for El Tri.

“Gimenez will wear the number 7 shirt.”

Gimenez is Milan’s second signing of the January transfer window, and the second under Sergio Conceicao’s reign, following the arrival of Kyle Walker from Manchester City earlier in the month.

Gimenez was born in Argentina and represents Mexico at international level, but holds an Italian passport as well, which means that he does not take up a valuable non-EU slot in the Rossoneri squad.

The 6-foot centre-forward has been in fine form in front of goal for Feyenoord this term, scoring 16 from 19 appearances across all competitions, including five in five in the Champions League. He also netted a brace as Feyenoord inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Bayern Munich two weeks ago.

Gimenez arrived on the day of the Derby della Madonnina against Inter which took place in Serie A on Sunday, but watched on from the stands. After Inter, The Rossoneri will next be in action against Roma in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday and Empoli in the league next weekend.

Gimenez becomes the most expensive player to join a Serie A side in the 2025 January transfer window, doubling the €17m that Como spent on Maxence Caqueret from Como earlier in the window.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s €70m move to Paris Saint-Germain remains the most expensive Serie A transfer this month.
