Danish international Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (28) has joined Olympique de Marseille, the Ligue 1 side has announced. Højbjerg will be arriving from Tottenham Hotspurs, where he has spent the past four seasons, on a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
Marseille had been in the market for an experienced midfielder, especially with Pape Gueye (25) leaving at the end of his contract and Jordan Veretout (31) reportedly for sale. Højbjerg will be looked upon to provide an experienced head in a dressing room that looks to be trending younger.
Marseille had already secured the signatures of Ismaël Koné (22), Lilian Brassier (24), and Mason Greenwood (22), while Bamo Meïté (22) officially joined after his loan was made permanent.
For Højbjerg, after eight years in the Premier League, it appeared that the Danish international was looking for a new adventure. At Marseille, he would be provided with a chance of helping to steer the direction of a new project building under Roberto De Zerbi.
