Spurs dramatic late show overcomes Coventry scare; Brighton beat Wolves | OneFootball

There were two more EFL Cup ties on Wednesday evening as Tottenham travelled to Championship side Coventry.

Here’s what happened.

Brighton through as Wolves misery continues

Scorers: Baleba 14′, Adingra 31′, Kadioglu 85′; Guedes 44′, Doyle 90+1

The home side went ahead in some style as Carlos Baleba scored his first goal for Brighton with a stunning effort on the turn from 30 yards out.

Simon Adingra then took his turn to score a rocket from distance, his shot flying in from the corner of the penalty area.

Wolves got themselves back in the game when Gonçalo Guedes finished high into the net from a neat Matt Doherty pull-back.

Yet this was Brighton’s night and they extended their lead when Ferdi Kadıoğlu fired in the rebound when José Sá had palmed away the initial shot from Danny Welbeck.

Wolves did give the home side a late scare though, as Tommy Doyle’s shot rattled the crossbar as he scored into the roof of the net

Coventry v Tottenham

Scorers: Thomas-Asante 63′; Spence 88′, Johnson 90+2

Coventry had dominated in the second half and took the lead from a fast break down the left-hand side, and after some defensive confusion, Brandon Thomas-Asante made Spurs pay from close range.

Just as it looked like Tottenham were heading out, some great work from Dejan Kulusevski played in Djed Spence, who stabbed the ball home just two minutes before the final whistle was due to blow.

Penalties were on the cards, but that was until Brennan Johnson got on the end of a perfect pass from Rodrigo Bentancur and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to take the lead in stoppage time.

There are third round ties still to be played that involve teams playing in Europe, and they are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
