It has been announced that Marco Reus will join LA Galaxy after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season upon the expiry of his contract.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Reus gave his reasons for move moving to the MLS instead of staying in Europe:
“I definitely didn’t want to stay in the Bundesliga, and Europe wasn’t an option for me anymore, because I really wanted to do something completely different toward the end of my career.”
In the US, Reus will now have the chance to play against Lionel Messi when LA Galaxy match up against Inter Miami, at the prospect of playing the greatest ever player, Reus said:
“It’s nice to play against him again in the league now. I had the pleasure of facing him two or three times, both with the club and the national team.”
In the MLS standing LA Galaxy are currently first in the Western Conference two points ahead of city rivals LAFC. In the city of Angels, Reus will link up with former Schalke central defender Maya Yoshida. LA Galaxy are one of the most successful teams in the MLS having won the MLS Cup five times with them gaining their reputation when David Beckham played for them.
Reus departed Dortmund in the summer after 12 years at the club which saw him play 429 times and score 170 goals. Sadly, the 35-year-old did not get the send-off he would have liked at his boyhood club as Dortmund lost the Champions League final 2-0 against Real Madrid in London.
