Olympique Lyonnais forward Amin Sarr (22) has completed a season-long loan to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, both clubs have announced.
The 22-year-old Sweden U21 international was deemed surplus to requirements after only six months at Lyon. Sarr joined Les Gones from Heerenveen in a €10m deal in last winter’s transfer window. In 18 outings with Laurent Blanc’s side, he only logged one goal and one assist. Lyon’s move for Mama Baldé effectively meant that Sarr was invited to gain playing time elsewhere. Sarr started Lyon’s last Ligue 1 game at Nice in the absence of the suspended Alexandre Lacazette, but he again failed to make a lasting impact.
Wolfsburg and Lyon reached an agreement on a €1m loan with a €13m option to make Sarr’s move permanent. The deal also includes performance-related add-ons worth €500k as well as a 10% capital gain of a possible resale. The Swede remains tied with Olympique Lyonnais over a contract set to expire in 2027.
Lyon will try to bring in a defensive midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window on Friday.
