Olympique Lyonnais have rewarded one of its most promising young midfielders with a new contract.
Khalis Merah (18) has brought plenty of energy and positional awareness off the bench for the senior squad, who are top of Ligue 1 with six points after two matchdays.
On Tuesday, Les Gones officially extended the 18-year-old’s contract through until 2029.
The versatile midfielder has proven to be a strong defensive player for them early on, helping his team win twice, while preserving two clean sheets in the process. The teenager who was born in Meyzieu previously earned two caps for the French U-16 squad.
In late February, he signed his first professional contract with Lyon on his 18th birthday until 2027. Even at his age, he boasts plenty of leadership qualities, captaining the club’s under-19 team before being integrated with the reserves. He’ll now be hoping for plenty more first-team opportunities this season.
