Eintracht Frankfurt have announced the extension of Kevin Trapp’s contract until 2026 with an option for a further year. The goalkeeper’s previous deal was set to expire in 2024.

On his contract extension, Trapp said: “Everyone knows how much this club means to me and that I feel at home in Frankfurt. I’m happy that I’ll continue to be a part of the Eintracht family. We’ve already been through a lot together and still have more to come. The club’s ambitions are 100% the same as mine and I’m eager to continue giving my all for Eintracht Frankfurt.”

Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche added: “Kevin Trapp is an absolute role model and represents the club like hardly any other player. His outstanding goalkeeping and personality make him an indispensable part of our team and our club. It was always important to us to extend our contract with Kevin for the long term and also provide him with opportunities once his playing career is over. It’s important for the club to keep hold of role models for a long time and to pass on their awareness of Eintracht’s special characteristics to future generations of players within the team. In my view, we now have the strongest German goalkeeper between the sticks on a long-term deal. That makes us proud.”

Trapp originally joined Frankfurt in 2012 and spent three years there before joining PSG. He would return to Frankfurt in 2018 initially on loan before making the move permanent a year later. The 32-year-old has made 282 appearances for Frankfurt and has been key in their recent success making several key saves in their Europa League triumph last season.

This season Trapp has played in all but one game for Frankfurt as they try and qualify for the Champions League, compete in the DFB Pokal and in the Champions League round of 16. Trapp was also part of Germany’s World Cup squad but did not make an appearance as they were eliminated at the group stage.
