Jordan Veretout (31) has completed a permanent move from Olympique de Marseille to Olympique Lyonnais, signing a two-year deal.
Veretout found himself out of favour at Marseille when Roberto De Zerbi arrived as manager. He was quickly informed that he was out of the frame and should therefore find a new project. In the meantime, he was placed in the infamous ‘loft’, alongside the likes of Chancel Mbemba and Azzedine Ounahi, and ostracised from the first-team set-up.
Whilst the France international couldn’t find a new club during the transfer window, French rules allow clubs to make a ‘joker’ transfer outside of the main window, so long as the player is signed from the domestic market. Lyon, who have been on the search for an extra midfielder, have profited from this rule, bringing in Veretout in a €4m deal. The transfer also includes up to €3m in bonuses and 25% sell-on clause.
