OGC Nice have officially announced the arrival of Jonathan Clauss from Olympique de Marseille on a two-year contract. Nice did not disclose the amount that they had paid for the former RC Lens wing-back but L’Équipe believes that it is €5 million with bonuses adding up to an extra €1 million.
Clauss had been one of the most consistent performers for Marseille last season but his time at the club came to an icy end when he was accused by some in the club of feigning injury to keep himself fresh for France’s Euros campaign. Marseille had tried to force him out of the club in the January transfer window but the wing-back was reluctant to accept a hasty transfer preferring to wait until the summer.
Nice had been keen to target Clauss believing him to be the perfect candidate to add a bit of experience to their backline with Jordan Lotomba (25) and Antoine Mendy (20) expected to depart the club.
