Borussia Mönchengladbach have announced that Joe Scally has extended his contract at the club until 2027. His previous deal expired in 2026.

On his extension, Scally said: “For me, the most important thing is to play as often as possible. Borussia gives me the opportunity to do just that and develop myself as a player. In the talks, those responsible showed me a clear plan in which direction it should continue for us. I am happy to go this way together with Borussia.”

Sporting Director Roland Virkus spoke on why the club decided to extend his contract by a year: “Joe has had a very good development with us. At his age and at this speed, walking the way from the hopeful talent in the U23 to the regular player in the Bundesliga and even to the World Cup driver is exemplary of the career we aspire to with external top talents. The new contract, extended by one year, appreciates this development, which we will be happy to continue to advance with it.”

The 20-year-old has become Gladbach’s starting right-back under Daniel Farke having struggled under previous manager Adi Hütter who preferred to use Stefan Lainer. This season he has played 28 times with his form earning him a place in the USA’s World Cup squad but he was unable to see any minutes in Qatar.

Scally’s contract extension does not rule him out of leaving the club in the summer, as Bild have previously reported that the 20-year-old could be offloaded if the price is right. According to Transfermarkt, Scally is currently valued at €12m having joined the club for €1.8m in 2021 from New York City FC.
