In the last few weeks, Marseille have been working hard to sign Carboni.

The 19-year-old has clearly been the priority for newly-appointed Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi.

The former Sassuolo, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Brighton and Hove Albion boss has taken over at the Velodrome this summer. And Carboni is a player he has identified as perfect for his new project.

Then, for his part, Carboni himself has reportedly been convinced by De Zerbi’s project.

The Argentine has pushed for the move to Marseille as the right next step for him in senior football.

Inter Milan Confirm Valentin Carboni Loan To Marseille

Last season, Carboni was out on loan at Monza.

It was just a season-long dry loan at the Brianzoli for the teenager. The purpose was for him to receive regular first team football at the senior football for the first time in his career.

In that sense the loan to Monza was a successful one for Carboni. The Argentine earned a regular starting place over the course of the season.

This summer there was a fair bit of transfer interest in Carboni.

Atalanta weighed up a move. And the teenager’s coach from Monza Raffaele Palladino wanted to bring him to Fiorentina.

But in the end it was Marseille who really stepped forward.

It was tough for the French club to sign Carboni outright considering the fee Inter have been demanding. Particularly after their big money signing of controversial forward Mason Greenwood.

However, Marseille and Inter have negotiated the transfer on the basis of a loan.

Reports indicate that Marseille are paying the Nerazzurri a loan fee of around €1 million. Meanwhile, they can sign Carboni permanently for a fee in the region of €40 million.

But Inter have not lost control of the 19-year-old’s future.

Should Marseille sign Carboni on a permanent basis next season, Inter can sign him right back for a fee a few million euros higher.
