Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella will be back in training by Tuesday ahead of his team’s Serie A clash with Roma after the international break.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. They also report that the recovery of wingback Tajon Buchanan continues to progress swiftly.
27-year-old Italian international Barella has spent the international break recovering from a thigh injury.
The problem for Barella is a strain to the rectus femoris muscle of his right thigh. He suffered the injury during the derby against AC Milan last month, where he started but had to come off during the second half.
Barella missed three matches in total for Inter so far. He was out against Udinese and Torino in Serie A, as well as Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Barella was not called up to the Italy squad for the break, due to his injury.
The target for Barella has always been to be back fit in time for Inter’s return from the international break.
The Nerazzurri’s first match back from the break is away to Roma in Serie A.
And it is good news for Inter and Barella. There looks to be no doubt that the former Cagliari midfielder will be able to return in time to face the Giallorossi.
Barella is still not back in full training.
The 27-year-old is taking his time on his recovery. There is hardly any reason to rush back considering that it is currently the international break.
But according to Sky, Tuesday of next week should be the day that Barella returns to training with the rest of the Inter squad.
Meanwhile, Canadian international wingback Tajon Buchanan is also close to a return from his own injury.
Buchanan’s injury is much longer-term than Barella’s. The 25-year-old suffered a broken leg with Canada at the Copa America during the summer.
Therefore, Buchanan has been on the sidelines for the entire season so far.
However, there is very much light at the end of the tunnel for the former Club Brugge wingback.
According to Sky, there is still plenty of caution around Buchanan. Considering that he has been out for such a long time, he will gradually return to action.
But the broadcaster reports that Buchanan has been recovering more quickly than expected.
Therefore, a return to full training should not be too far away for the Canadian. He should be available for selection not long after the international break.
After facing Roma, Inter will come up against Young Boys in the Champions League and then Juventus in the league.
