One of the two incoming transfers promised by Hamburg boss Stefan Kuntz was officially unveiled on Thursday evening. Argentine midfielder Nicolas Capaldo joins the newly-promoted Bundesliga side on a €3.5m transfer from RB Salzburg. Hamburg should have another RB system signing to introduce soon once Danish striker Yussuf Poulsen’s move from RB Leipzig is completed.
Hamburg ended up securing the services of their specifically targeted replacement for Ludovit Reis at a very reasonable price. Capaldo maintains an estimated market value of €5m. The new arrival is now the second most valued player in the HSV squad behind €6m-valued German-Ghanaian striker Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer.
Capaldo brings with him plenty of valuable European experience as well, having made 22 appearances in the Champions League for the Austrian Red Bulls. HSV board-member-for-sport Kuntz and sporting director Claus Costa both issued statements accompanying the signing.
”We are very happy to have added Nicolas as another piece to our squad puzzle,” Kuntz said. “He brings a lot of energy, mentality, and spirit. Our team will benefit from this both on and off the pitch.”
“Nico is a very active and intense central midfielder who plays with a lot of passion on the pitch,” Costa added. “We are convinced that his dynamism, ball-winning ability, and courageous style-of-play will strengthen our team.”
