Fisnik Asllani’s contract extension with his current Bundesliga club has been officially confirmed. Hoffenheim confirmed on Sunday that the 22-year-old inked a new deal valid until 2029. A hefty pay raise is in order for the German-Kosovar after his superb season on loan last year with 2. Bundesliga outfit SV Elversberg. Asllani also excelled on loan at FK Austria Wien during the 2023/24 campaign.
“After the loan spells over the past two years, I simply felt that my time in Hoffenheim was far from over,” Asllani noted in a club-released statement. “I’m highly motivated and now want to establish myself at TSG and prove myself in the Bundesliga. I know the club, many of the players in the squad, and everyone who works at TSG. All of that will make my return easier. Now I can concentrate fully on the sporting side of things from now on.“
“Naturally, Fisnik’s development and his strong performances in the second division have not gone unnoticed by many other clubs and he has attracted a lot of interest.” TSG sporting director Andreas Schicker added. “For this reason, we are all the more delighted that he has now opted with conviction to remain with TSG. We are absolutely convinced that he will take the next steps in his career with us and that we will all continue to enjoy working with him in the future.”
Asllani had been linked with a move to Werder Bremen, where he would have been re-united with former Elversberg mentor Horst Steffen. Speaking to reporters after a Werder friendly yesterday, Steffen confirmed that there had been talks. The newly appointed Bremen head coach nevertheless conceded defeat graciously.
“People make their own decisions,” Steffen – quoted by Kicker – noted. “We expressed our interest, something appropriate after what we’ve been through together. Should Fisnik makes a different choice, that’s the way it is. I don’t take anything personally.”
