Feyenoord have announced the signing of 21-year-old midfielder Quinten Timber for a club-record fee of €10 million.

After starting his career in the Feyenoord and Ajax academies, Jurrien’s twin brother joined Utrecht last year and impressed many in his first season regularly playing in the Eredivisie.

So good were his performances that PSV and Ajax were interested in signing him in this transfer window, but both have lost out to their Rotterdam rivals.

“It certainly feels familiar to be back here,” Timber told the club’s website.

“When I drove to De Kuip, it felt like coming home. Feyenoord has done its best to bring me back and I am happy with that.

“To be able to stand here again eight years after my departure, in this stadium in which the supporters transfer their energy to the team, is fantastic.

“I’m fit and I’m looking forward to training tomorrow.”

He becomes the most expensive signing in the club’s history, costing €2.5 million more than previous record-signing Marcos Senesi.

Even with this move though, they’re still set to end this transfer window with a tidy profit following the big-money sales of Luis Sinisterra and Tyrell Malacia to Leeds United and Manchester United respectively.
