Girondins de Bordeaux are heading towards a double administrative relegation following their bankruptcy. The Appeal Commission of the DNCG – Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion, French football’s financial watchdog – has overturned the club’s appeal to feature in third-tier National 1. Consequently, Les Marine et Blanc are set to feature in France’s fourth tier, National 2.

Bordeaux contested their National 2 demotion on the grounds that “the success of their restructuring, which began with the opening of the judicial recovery procedure, necessarily requires its sporting return as quickly as possible among the elite of French football.” Unfortunately, the arguments of club owner Gérard Lopez reportedly did not convince the DNCG representatives.

In their statement, the DNCG confirmed the administrative demotion of Bordeaux’s first team in National 2 for the 2024-2025 season. The historic French club can still file an appeal to the CNOSF – Comité National Olympique Sportif Français, the highest sporting authority in France – but time is running out. Bordeaux were set to play Villefranche away this Friday for the opening gameweek of the National 1 season.
