Dest spent the last season on loan at PSV and enjoyed a resurgence after a few years of struggle at Barcelona. The Dutch giants had an option to sign him permanently, which they intended to trigger.

However, the USMNT star’s serious knee injury, sidelining him for nine months, cast doubts about the move.

But PSV have still gone ahead and signed Dest from Barcelona in a permanent transfer, seemingly on a free transfer, considering his contract expired next year.

The Dutch giants were reluctant to pay any f given his contract situation and injury. But Barcelona do retain a future sell-on clause in the agreement.

PSV’s statement confirmed that Dest has signed a four-year contract until 2028, as it read:

“Sergiño Dest is and always will be PSV. The technically gifted left-back was rented from FC Barcelona last season. Now PSV takes him over permanently from the Catalans. Sergiño signed a four-year contract on Saturday afternoon at PSV Campus De Herdgang.”

Dest leaves Barcelona four years after having arrived from AFC Ajax in the summer of 2020.
