Amid concerns surrounding the injury suffered by midfielder Gavi in training on Friday, FC Barcelona have now issued an official statement providing an update on the situation.

On Friday, the midfielder sustained a knee injury and could not complete the training session. While it was initially believed that the issue was nothing major, it was claimed overnight that the condition was more worrisome.

It was claimed that Gavi had suffered an injury in the same right knee that he had hurt two years ago and had undergone surgery.

But, Barcelona’s statement should ease some fears as they claim that the midfielder is only sidelined due to ‘discomfort’.

“Player Pablo Paez Gaviria, ‘Gavi’, has discomfort in his right knee. He is out for Sunday’s match against Rayo, and his recovery will determine his availability,” the statement read.

The fan-favourite midfielder is expected to undergo more tests once his swelling goes down, following which the exact extent of his injury and potential recovery timeline should become clear.

For now, Hansi Flick and Barcelona will be hoping that they will be able to recover Gavi at the earliest possible.
