The UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final and semi-final draw took place today, Friday, 7th February, in Nyon at the UEFA headquarters, setting up thrilling matchups as Europe’s elite clubs continue their quest for continental glory.
Reigning champions FC Barcelona Femení have been drawn against familiar foes VfL Wolfsburg Women in a highly anticipated showdown.
The first leg is set for March 18, with the return fixture on March 26. Having faced each other multiple times in recent years, this clash marks another chapter in their growing rivalry on the grandest stage.
If Barcelona advance, they will face either Chelsea or Manchester City in the semi-finals, with the first leg taking place on April 19 or 20 and the return leg on April 26 or 27.
On the other side of the bracket, Real Madrid take on Arsenal, while Bayern Munich face Olympique Lyonnais Féminin in two mouth-watering ties. The final is set to take place on May 24 at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, Portugal.
This will be the fifth meeting between Barcelona and Wolfsburg in the competition, with the Catalan giants holding the upper hand in recent encounters. Most notably, Barcelona Femení clinched the 2022/23 title with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Wolfsburg in the final.
In the 2021/22 semi-finals, Barcelona triumphed 5-3 on aggregate, avenging their 1-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in the 2019/20 semi-finals.
Their first-ever encounter came in the 2013/14 quarter-finals, where Wolfsburg dominated with a 5-0 aggregate victory. However, Barcelona have since risen to become one of the most formidable forces in European football.
Barcelona have won six consecutive quarter-finals, last being eliminated at this stage in the 2017/18 season against Lyon. Under the current UWCL format, they remain the only team to have topped their group in all four seasons.
This season, the Spanish champions are aiming to become only the second club after Lyon to secure three consecutive Champions League titles. Reaching the final would mark their fifth straight appearance, matching Lyon’s record run between 2016 and 2020.
Barcelona continue to dominate Liga F, leading the table with a five-point advantage over Real Madrid. Their remarkable 46-match unbeaten league streak recently ended with a narrow defeat to Levante, marking only their second loss of the season—the first coming against Manchester City in the Champions League group stage.
Wolfsburg, meanwhile, are locked in a fierce domestic title race, sitting third in the Frauen-Bundesliga, just one point behind Bayern Munich and Frankfurt.
As reigning champions, Barcelona Femení are determined to defend the title and continue their dominance on the European stage. With a history of success and a squad full of world-class talent, the team is ready to rise to the challenge and add another chapter to their storied journey.
