With the 2024/25 season a month away, FC Barcelona have announced their opponents for the club’s traditional curtain-raiser for a new campaign – the Joan Gamper Trophy.

And, Barcelona will be facing off against French giants AS Monaco in the 59th edition of the Gamper Trophy clash.

The match will be played on Monday, August 12, at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys at 8 pm (CET).

“AS Monaco will be FC Barcelona’s opponents in the 59th Joan Gamper Trophy game in what will be Hansi Flick’s first home game as Barça coach,” the statement from Barcelona read.

As the statement mentions, it will be the first home match that new manager Hansi Flick will be taking charge of, after the three pre-season friendlies in the USA.

This will be Monaco’s first-ever appearance in the Gamper Trophy game and the fifth by a Ligue 1 side.

Previous opponents from France have been Nantes in 1966, Sochaux in 1989, Olympique Marseille in 1991, and Bordeaux in 1993, all in the previous format of a four-team tournament.

Monaco, coached by the Austrian Adi Hutter, had a great 2023/24 season, qualifying for the Champions League after missing out the previous year.

With the new format in place in Europe’s premier competition, they could end up facing Barça in the competition.
